Spire Ledgers vs PowerSchool ERP/Finance

PowerSchool is the most widely deployed K-12 SIS in North America, and PowerSchool ERP/Finance (formerly eFinancePlus and PowerSchool Unified Insights Finance) extends that footprint into the business office. The pitch is simple: one vendor for SIS and finance, with native data pipelines between the two. Spire Ledgers is a K-12-specialized fund-accounting platform built independently of any SIS — it pulls from PowerSchool, Infinite Campus, Skyward, and others through standard exports.

If your district already runs PowerSchool SIS and the deciding factor is one-vendor convenience, PowerSchool ERP is a credible choice. If your priority is financial depth — GASB 87/96, federal awards, fund-accounting rigor, modern UX, and a CPI-capped price-lock — Spire Ledgers is the more focused product. Both pull SIS data; only one is a finance-first platform.

Pricing comparison

PowerSchool typically bundles Finance with SIS, which can blur the Finance line item. Spire publishes a per-school rate.

Spire Ledgers

$80 per school / month — published, CPI-capped

Annual billing reduces the rate to $72/school/month. District consolidation is included free. The CPI Cap (TOS §8b) limits year-over-year increases to U.S. CPI + 2 pp.

PowerSchool ERP/Finance

Quote-based, often bundled with SIS

PowerSchool ERP/Finance pricing is RFP- or quote-driven and frequently bundled with PowerSchool SIS, MTSS, or Schoology. Districts replacing only Finance may find the bundled discount disappears, and renewal pricing has historically risen at PowerSchool's discretion.

Multi-year price-lock with CPI cap

Spire is the only platform on this comparison that contractually caps year-over-year price increases.

Lock today's monthly rate for 1 to 5 years. Year-over-year increases are capped at U.S. CPI inflation + 2 percentage points (the "CPI Cap"), written into the Terms of Service §8b. PowerSchool ERP/Finance reserves the right to raise pricing at renewal at its discretion.
